The Round 18 AFL Sydney Rising Star nominee and the final one of the 2013 season is Jack McKinlay of UNSW/ES.
Season 2012 was a breakout year for Jack McKinlay, culminating in being awarded the Under 18 Division One Kealy medal as the Best and Fairest player in the competition, four votes clear of his nearest rival.
Unfortunately for Jack however, his move to the senior ranks was put on hold as his 2013 pre season was delayed as he fought off the dreaded osteitis pubis. Missing most of the pre season meant that Jack had to wait until Round 5 to make his debut in Premier Division but he hasn’t looked back since then. Jack has played every game since his debut except for weekends when his Premier Division form has seen him selected in the Sydney Swans NEAFL side.
The last game of the 2013 home and away season saw Jack produce arguably his best performance of the year in the Bulldogs 67 point victory over Sydney Hills Eagles which included a seasons best three goals.
Coach Rhys McAlister has been very impressed with the speed Jack has introduced to the team in linking up the defence with the forwards.
Jack combines good skills by both hand and foot and is strong mark for his height given his high vertical leap.
Congratulations Jack on this weeks nomination and all other nominees throughout the 2013 season.
Premier Division coaches will now be asked to vote on this years Rising Star winner which will be announced at Phelan Medal night on Monday 16th September.
