UNIVERSITY has clinched the AFL Darling Downs minor premiership with an 11.23 (89) to 11.4 (70) victory over South Toowoomba at USQ on Saturday.
The Cougars survived a late scare to end the Bombers' season and earn a bye for the first week of the finals.
Meanwhile, Coolaroo crushed Dalby's slim finals hopes with a 22.8 (140) to 9.9 (63) triumph.
The Swans had mounted a stunning late-season charge but couldn't beat the Roos to snatch a top five finish.
Coolaroo is now set for a blockbuster qualifying final against three-time premiers the Toowoomba Tigers.
The Tigers warmed up for the finals with a 9.18 (72) to 7.5 (47) victory over Warwick.
The Redbacks were able to hold fourth place despite the loss to secure hosting rights for their elimination final against Goondiwindi.
In the weekend's other matches, Damien Morris inspired Lockyer Valley to an 11.13 (79) to 8.8 (56) victory over Highfields.
Morris booted five majors as the Demons claimed their second win of the season.
And South Burnett ensured fellow first-season rookies Chinchilla will claim the wooden spoon with a 21.23 (149) to 7.8 (50) victory.
Brad Edwards (seven goals) and Paul Pressnell (five) led the way as the Saints notched a second-straight home win.
