In 2013, AFL Darling Downs will implement a final 5 system to determine the eventual premiers. This will be in effect for the Under 12s, Under 14s, Under 16s & Allied Pickfords Cup. The corresponding junior finals will be played at the same venue as the Allied Pickfords Cup finals, regardless of the teams participating.
Week 1 (August 31st)
1st will have a bye
2nd plays 3rd in the Qualifying Final, with all Qualifying Finals to be held at the home ground of whoever finishes 2nd in the Allied Pickfords Cup.
4th will play 5th in an Elimination Final at the home ground of whoever finishes 4th in the Allied Pickfords Cup.
Week 2 (September 7th)
Major Semi Final: 1st plays the winner of the Qualifying Final at the home ground of whoever finishes 1st in the Allied Pickfords Cup.
Minor Semi Final (loser eliminated): The loser of the Qualifying Final will host the Winner of the Elimination Final at their home ground.
Week 3 (September 14th)
Winner of the Major Semi Final has a bye and is through to the Grand Final
The Preliminary Final will be held at Rockville Oval between the loser of the Major Semi Final and the winner of the Minor Semi Final.
The Holman Medal & Junior Presentation Nights will be held on this night. Games will be moved a half hour forward to accommodate for this.
Week 4 (September 21st) - Grand Final
Winner of the Major Semi Final versus the winner of the Preliminary Final at Rockville Oval.
The expanded final 5 will allow more teams to experience finals football, which is expecially important given we have now expanded our competitions to 12 participating clubs. It will also provide a greater reward for sides finishing high on the Allied Pickfords Cup ladder with a home ground advantage, as well as increased revenue from the matches.
