Olympic Keeper In Joeys Squad

The Joeys face Cambodia tonight in the opening match of their ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U-16 Championship campaign with Olympic FC's NPL Under 14 goalkeeper Duro Dragicevic amongst the squad in Myanmar.

Duro, who also spent time with Queensland Academy of Sport, is one of three ‘keepers in the Joeys squad for the tournament, which acts as preparation before the squad embarks on qualifying for the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.

The talented young goalkeeper received his call-up to former Socceroo Tony Vidmar’s 20 player squad after several training camps were held at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

Following their opening match against Cambodia, the Joeys will meet host nation Myanmar on Thursday (August 22), Brunei on Saturday (August 24), Vietnam on Monday (August 26), with semi-finals potentially to follow.

Duro is one of seven Queenslanders in the Joeys squad for the tournament.

The AFC U-16 Championship qualifiers will be held in Hong Kong from 21-29 September with the top two teams progressing to the AFC U-16 Championship which will be held in Thailand in 2014.
