TRENT SLATTER | THE CHRONICLE | 19 AUGUST 2013
SOUTH Toowoomba's AFL Darling Downs season is hanging by a thread after suffering an 18.17 (125) to 9.5 (59) loss to Coolaroo on Saturday.
The Bombers came out swinging and led by eight at the first change but they couldn't contain the Roos who bounded home on the back of six goals to Adam Green.
Souths must now spring an upset against University next weekend to finish in the top five.
It's a similar story for Dalby after the Swans went down 14.14 (98) to 4.4 (28) to University.
The Swans fought hard but they couldn't overcome the competition leaders and must now defeat Coolaroo to stay in the title race.
Meanwhile, Goondiwindi faces a nervous wait to see if it will make the finals despite thrashing South Burnett 34.14 (218) to 8.8 (56).
David O'Toole continued his incredible late-season form with another 17 goals against the Saints to take his season tally to 83.
The percentage-boosting victory helped the Hawks move up to fifth, but with a final round bye, they must rely on other results to stay there.
Warwick, on the other hand, appears to be safe in fourth after its come-from-behind 20.23 (143) to 11.7 (73) victory over Highfields.
Coach Jason Wright led by example with five goals as the Redbacks completely dominated the second half, kicking 12.15 to the Lions' 2.3.
The Redbacks are now set for an exciting final round battle with the Toowoomba Tigers, who wrapped up third place with a resounding 33.19 (217) to 4.1 (25) victory over Lockyer Valley.
