Round 7 of AFL Quebec saw the charge for the title race blown wide open with virtually the last kick of the game winning both contests in an absolutely enthralling day of footy played in almost perfect conditions last Sunday 11th August in ...St Anne’s.
An undermanned Old Port Dockers and Laval Bombers , who were welcoming back AFL Quebec stalwart Ryan Oxley to their line-up for the first time this year, were tied going into the dying seconds in the first of the Round 7 games. After having completed what looked like the comebacks of all comebacks, it had seemed that the Dockers had done enough to earn a share of the spoils, but up stepped Josue Gavidia to break Dockers hearts and to give the Bombers victory, four points and now, a very much realistic shot at a top two finish.
Laval Bombers 9.10. 64 to Old Port Dockers 8.10. 58
If game one wasn't exciting enough how about game two which was won by a meagre three point margin on what was too almost the last kick of the game. It had looked like the Eagles had done enough to win this one and set themselves up nicely for the remainder of the season but a frantic finish saw the Demons kick 3 goals in as many minutes to snatch victory from the Eagles grasp and queue jubilant scenes all around showing just how much victory meant to the Downtown men.
Montreal Demons 11.9. 75 to West Island Eagles 11.6. 72
Congratulation to the Montreal Demons Luke O' Farrell who picked up the Round 7 player of the round.
Had the Eagles and Dockers both won the remainder of the season would have been a mere formality but now it’s anybody’s for the taking. What an exciting final two round of games we are in for!
The race for second place is so tight we are getting all scores reviewed! 0.1% separates 2nd and 3rd and ultimately a double chance in the finals series! With two rounds to play - EVERY POINT COUNTS!
