Macquarie University are pinning their hopes on their Under 18s and Women’s sides as they hope to secure some silverware this September.
Club spokesman, David Marsh recounted the club’s fortunes this year.
"We have had a mixed bag of results this season at Macquarie. Our Division 1 side started the season well and put themselves right in finals contention, but a few recent losses in a very even competition have been costly," he said.
"Our reserve grade side playing in Division 3 has struggled this year against strong senior sides like Blacktown, Gosford and Randwick City. The likely promotion of two of these sides will see a more competitive division next season.
"The Division 4 Warriors are still winless in 2013 but have arguably the best spirit in the club and continue to improve with every game. The focus on enjoying football and giving everything a go keeps this squad going.
"Our young under 18s side have delivered some fantastic performances this season and can contend deep into the finals series. The change from under 18s to under 19s will mean this squad could play 3 full seasons together and will benefit enormously from this.
"However the standout performers in the club have undoubtedly been the Women’s team.
"Playing in Division 2, they remain undefeated and on top of the ladder, having kept many opponents goalless over the course of the season. A credit to both the Coach, Dan Ranson, for the way he has harnessed his group of players and focused on building their skills, but also to the girls themselves who have embraced AFL football and delivered an amazing culture of camaraderie within the team."
The club committee, according to Marsh, has kept things simple this year.
"The focus has been to put teams on the park, keep the canteen stocked and encourage everyone to pull their weight," he said.
"The election of three girls onto the committee has seen the delivery of some fantastic club events including our annual Women’s Round, Family & Friends Day, Trivia Night and a Warriors Got Talent night.
"Meanwhile, we continue to work hard to build relationships with the junior clubs in our area with North Ryde Dockers and the Mosman Swans girls teams joining us on Family & Friends Day for some half time fun on University Oval.
"Our network of volunteers continue to amaze us with their dedication to the club. Enough thanks cannot go to Ian Wright, Suzanne Ryan, Jenny Cooper, Kathy Moylan, and Mark Wilcox for the time they put in every week."
