TD Endorses Premiers' Winning Style

Olympic FC technical director Gabor Ganczer foresees more success for the inaugural NPL Queensland premiers so long as the club continues to follow the National Coaching Curriculum.

Olympic FC wrapped up the inaugural NPL Queensland premiership title on Sunday afternoon with a solid 3-1 win over Moreton Bay Jets at Goodwin Park.

Captain Danny Byrne scored a brace for newly-crowned premiers in the efficient home performance, adding to a headed goal from league leading scorer Tim Smits.

Ganczer, who previously worked as part of the national team coaching set-up in his native Hungary, said he considered the premiership a proud day for the club.

“We wanted this, we delivered this and I think it is a huge effort and a reward for all 800 members of this club not just the senior team,” Ganczer said.

However, he added that the club has long term ambitions in line with the National Premier Leagues model.

“Our major focus is the youth development. The NPL has been set-up for this and we planning our future for three or four years time when we can field a premiership-winning team out of our own talent pool.”

“It doesn’t mean that there is anything wrong with winning with players who didn’t come through the system because Olympic never had the system before - we never had the allocation for such a high league and prestigious competition,” Ganczer explained.

“We are truly enjoying winning with experienced players and we will enjoy it when we can win with home grown players too.”

Ganczer was also pleased that the club won their first NPL silverware by following the FFA National Coaching Curriculum.

“I always like when we try to express the new Australian style because at the NPL level that is very important. It is very important that a club wins a premiership at the state level with a style demanded from the FFA but also from the club as well.”

Olympic boast a league best attacking return of 84 goals this season and Ganczer was quick to highlight the role of the team’s front three in the premiership success.

“I think Danny Byrne, jai Ingham and Tim smits are prime examples of how to play three strikers in the 1-4-3-3 system. If there were one lesser week for one out of the three, then the other two were always scoring and proving themselves,” he said.

Ganczer also eagerly pointed out the commitment of the senior squad to the club as a whole.

“Jack Petrie was this morning at Toowoomba at 9AM coaching our under 12 development side. He then travelled back, took his position in the line up and then won the premiership,” Ganczer gushed.
