Eighth spot on the Peter Jackson VFL ladder is still up for grabs, with the Northern Blues and Frankston in contention for the prized spot, as Alexander McLeman previews this Sunday’s Frankston Oval match-up.
Victory this weekend would buy the Northern Blues another week in eighth spot, while for Frankston, a defeat would all but end their finals hopes.
The Blues enter Sundays contest following impressive wins over Box Hill Hawks and Coburg. The team has shown over the past four weeks that they have what it takes to compete with the top teams and are looking to close out the season in emphatic fashion with another victory this weekend.
The likes of Troy Menzel, Dylan Buckley, Kane Lambert and Nick Graham are keys to the Blues’ progression this season. The young guns have provided their side with a good mix of VFL and AFL listed play makers, which has been a constant all season.
After recording a string of three consecutive victories against Sandringham, Bendigo and Coburg which put them right in amongst the finals contenders, Frankston has lost two on the trot against North Ballarat and Williamstown pushing them to the brink of finals extinction.
The Dolphins have not seen as much efficiency from their forward line over recent weeks, and will need to improve against an experienced Blues’ defense. Last time the two teams met Khan Haretuku was a lone hand up forward, and they will need to share the load and get on top early to defeat the Blues this time around.
When: Sunday 4th August.
Venue: Frankston Oval
First Bounce: 2:00pm
