Can Lockyer Valley upset flag favourites Bombers or will South Toowoomba cap off their perfect season thus far with a Grand-Final victory over the Demons. The inaugural and historic Women's Grand-Final will take place from 2:30pm this Sunday 4th August at Rockville Oval.
Bombers haven't put a foot wrong this season but standing in their way is a dogged Lockyer Valley who is appearing in their first Finals appearance as a club since forming back in 2010.
So, how do the Demons women stop the soaring Bombers?
Discipline and one on one footy easier said than done. The Bombers have sliced opposition teams apart this year with their slick moving skilful, corridor game plan. Lockyer Valley must push South’s wide and get numbers to the contest, from here their direction should be slingshot footy a.k.a thrust the footy forward as quickly as possible and catch the sleepy Bombers defenders out.
Paige Buzza and Carmon Paia have been earmarked as the keys if the Demons are to take the Cup back to the Valley but Premiership teams aren't built on individual success.
Buzza and Paia will need the likes of Rosé-Lee, French, Everson and co to step up on the biggest stage of all; Grand Final day. Rose-Lee is a star in the making, hard running, hard hitting, knows how to find the footy and no doubt should have representative squads in her sights for the future. For now, Grand-Final day and young Chelsea Rose-Lee could be the spark the Demons require.
Many put South Toowoomba's success down to QLD representatives Danielle Wall and Georgie Seaniger, yes they have been a major influence but the Bombers discipline with their structure, game plan and intensity is first class. They would even show their male counterparts a thing or two about footy at the moment.
Bombers will stick to what works and that is their "Geelong" style of play and no matter the margin will keep their intensity at a first class rate. Rebecca McInnes and Morgan Prior have been superb up forward; they are a dynamic forward duo. Both are coming off big bags, booting 10 between them last time they played the Demons.
McInnes is a strong one on one marking forward, while Prior is hard to beat with her leap and ability to win the footy at ground level. Paia may get the job on McInnes, which will be an intriguing battle all day.
So, can the juggernaut that is the South Toowoomba Bombers women's team be stopped? Only time will tell and one thing is for sure, come 4:00pm this Sunday AFL Darling Downs will be crowning the first ever Women's League Premiers.
A game not to miss!
Don't forget the under14 Crows are up against Wilston Grange Gorillas in the curtain raiser from 12:30pm, as Darling Downs look to secure a spot in the top 2.
