Darling Downs clubs shared in over $12,000 of Federal Government funding in the latest round of grants announced last week.
The Toowoomba East Stingers, Warwick Redbacks & Lockyer Valley Demons received the funds to help support volunteers in their clubs, thanks to the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services & Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA).
Given that all of our football clubs are community run organisations, all of the hard work has to be done by bands of dedicated volunteers. Finding people to help out is repeatedly listed as the toughest thing facing the survival of football clubs.
The three successful clubs recognised the opportunity to receive some assistance in this critical area and submitted quality applications which also met the desired outcomes of the Federal Government.
“It’s fantastic for three of our clubs to be rewarded for spending a little bit of time submitting a quality application,” highlights AFLQ Club Coordinator Christopher Davis.
“Although a couple of clubs were unsuccessful, the three successful clubs clearly established a need and put together a quality application which wasn’t just thrown together on the last day.”
The latest grant success brings the region’s tally of grant monies received in 2013 over the $150,000 mark; just two weeks ahead of the State Government’s ‘Get in the Game’ funding program reopening.
