Dalby: 12 wins, 1 losses – 48 points
To Play: Lockyer Valley (H), BYE, University (H), Coolaroo (A)
Dalby are premiership favourites and for good reason. They score significantly more than anyone else and concede quite a bit less. Their only loss came during the school holidays when they were forced to forfeit and injuries appear the only thing likely to stop them from fielding a side and continuing on their winning ways.
Prediction: 1st
Coolaroo: 7 wins, 1 draw, 4 losses – 30 points
To Play: University (N), Highfields (H), South Toowoomba (H), Dalby (H)
Coolaroo haven’t quite been the dominant force they have been in previous years, with this year being their ‘down year’ with a majority of players in the bottom age bracket. Despite this, they still find themselves in 2nd position and with an easy run home look likely to remain in 2nd position.
Prediction: 2nd
Warwick: 7 wins, 1 draw, 5 losses – 30 points
To Play: South Toowoomba (H), University (A), Highfields (H), BYE
Warwick have been the big improvers of the season after starting relatively slowly with a 1-3 record. Since then, the boys have played with intensity at the contest and a strong desire to be the club’s first junior side to be in premiership contention. A journey to Toowoomba in week 1 of the finals will be a tough ask, but a good lesson which may see them in a major semi final come September.
Prediction: 3rd
University: 5 wins, 6 losses – 20 points
To Play: Coolaroo (N), Warwick (H), Dalby (A), South Toowoomba (A)
The Cougars started strongly but have struggled big time as they have been decimated by injury to key players. The Cougars have kicked just 6 goals in their past 3 matches and haven’t won since Round 11. Many of their key personnel are on the long-term injury list and if they do return for finals (if they make it) will be severely out of match fitness.
Prediction: 6th
Lockyer Valley: 5 wins, 8 losses – 20 points
To Play: Dalby (A), South Toowoomba (A), BYE, Highfields (H)
Like Warwick, the Demons have been playing with dogged intensity, probably brought about by a number of players filling in for the A Grade side. The boys from the valley are big and can scare their opposition out of the contest by attacking the ball hard in the first quarter. Their inexperience may bring them undone against the top couple of sides but winning a final would be a great boost for this team, and their club.
Prediction: 4th
South Toowoomba: 3 wins, 8 losses – 12 points
To Play: Warwick (A), Lockyer Valley (H), Coolaroo (A), University (H)
South Toowoomba have a couple of big games which can decide their own finals fate. With University struggling, a make-up game for the Round 10 washout could be a pre-elimination final for the two to slip into the final 5. If they are to make it, they will be unlikely to challenge the top 3.
Prediction: 5th
