One-club footballers are few and far between and a one-club footballer who plays 300 games for their club is a distinctly rare breed.
Walpeup Underbool’s Matt Brown played his 300th senior game for the Roos against Jeparit Rainbow on Saturday. Matt has had a long and distinguished career with Walpeup Underbool winning the league goal kicking, several premiership flags and playing inter league football on many occasions.
Even when he was living in Mildura and Adelaide Matt would travel back to his home town of Underbool to play for the Roos. The Brown name is well known in country football circles. One of six boys, Matt once played with three of his brothers in the 2001 premiership winning side. 2001 was a big year for Matt as he kicked his 100th goal for the year in the drawn Grand Final, before taking out the flag with his club the week after.
Matt has won two Walpeup Underbool Best and Fairest awards in 1997 and in 2001. In all he has been in four Premiership sides in 2001, 2007, 2008 and 2012. He doubled up in 2007 winning the Mallee Football League goal kicking as well as the Premiership.
Matt Brown is a Mallee farmer living in Underbool with wife Kristen and three children, two boys Finn and Hunter and baby daughter Scarlett. Congratulations on a wonderful career Matt!
