TRENT SLATTER | THE CHRONICLE | 26 JULY 2013
COOLAROO midfielder Adam Ottobrino says he hasn't given too much thought to his 300th AFL Darling Downs game this weekend.
It's a feat that few other players in the league can match and makes Ottobrino Coolaroo's most capped player in his 19th season with the club.
He has been part of some incredible milestones during that time including five straight flags from 2001-05.
But Ottobrino admitted that this most recent accolade had almost passed by unnoticed.
"I wasn't really keeping count to be honest," he said.
"I knew it would be close but I wasn't sure until the newsletter came out this week."
Ottobrino said he never expected to reach his triple-century but a love of the game and the great camaraderie at the club had kept him going.
"I enjoy it. I've always had a lot of good friends at the club," he said.
"We didn't have much success for the first few years but I was part of the team that won five in a row.
"That keeps you keen. Once you get a taste, you want to keep winning."
Tomorrow's clash won't just be significant for Ottobrino as the Roos look to keep their unbeaten streak alive against University.
The two AFLDD powerhouses will face off at USQ with the winner all but certain to claim the minor premiership.
Coolaroo (48 points) and Uni (44 points) have broken away from the rest of the pack with the Roos unbeaten in 11 games this season.
But the Cougars are nipping at their heels with their only loss coming all the way back in round four when Coolaroo snuck home by six points.
Ottobrino said he expected Uni to put in a big performance for their annual Cancer Council Queensland charity match but he wasn't concerned if Coolaroo's perfect season comes to an end.
"We've got a couple of key blokes out and it's a big game for them. I know we always lift for Old Boys day," Ottobrino said.
"But being undefeated doesn't mean anything. You're not going to win the premiership this weekend."
