Withcott State School teacher Mr. Matthew Russell has taken out the 2013 AFLQDD Primary School Ambassador of the Year award in a hotly contested season.
Matty or Mr. Russell to the students held onto first place right from the Ambassador Season Launch until the end of the School Ambassador count. Matt accumulated an impressive 500points, surpassing the previous record of 475points (set by previous winner Tim Lincoln from OLOSCC Dalby) and achieving 10 different programs/categories.
From implementing the Lion Hearted Leaders program to entering teams in the Brisbane Lions Cup, Matt kept the ‘gospel’ of Australian Football high on the agenda of the entire school. The most impressive feat of Matt was that instead of sitting down in the schools staffroom to eat lunch, he would be out on the oval helping AFLQ development staff run the NAB AFL Auskick program.
Matt has made sure that Australia’s Game will live on at Withcott State School recently making sure the school purchased their own set of jerseys. Mr. Russell has also showed that he knows what it takes when picking his footy tips each week, as Matt currently sits 10th overall in the AFL Darling Downs tipping competition.
Matt has already locked in the AFL Sport Education program to run during Term 4 where 8 teams will play off in the Withcott Intra-School Cup. Matt has already started planning on how he can go back to back Ambassador of the Year, with the new system kicking off on Monday 22nd July.
For taking out the 2013 AFLQDD Primary Ambassador of the Year, Matt received a signed Brisbane Lions Guernsey, signed Jonathan Brown cap along with a family pass to a Brisbane Lions home game of his choice for this season.
