Morningside have proven too strong for Darling Downs, as the Crows lose their third game of the season ending their five game winning streak. The Panthers ran out 6.7 (43) to 2.7 (19) victors at Rockville Oval on Sunday.
In a high intensity first quarter, the Crows recorded more inside fifties than Morningside but were unable to capitalise on their hard work. Both teams restricted to only scoring behinds with the Crows leading by a mere 3-points at the first break.
Quarter time scores; Darling Downs 0.5 (5) to Morningside 0.2 (2)
Morningside again proved difficult to match up, as the "Siders" piled on three unanswered goals. Darling Downs were only able to record the one behind for the term. Ben Southey was the lone ranger, as the key position player ran tirelessly throughout the second term.
Half-time scores: Darling Downs 0.6 (6) to Morningside 3.4 (22)
Key forward Brendan Shelton was able to finally boot home the Crows first goal in the third minute of the third quarter to give the Crows faithful hope. Morningside shut-down the Crows celebrations answering with a goal of their own, through hard running from the centre clearance. Ill-discipline cost the Crows, as the Panthers slotted home another major from a 50m penalty extending the margin to 22-points just before the final break.
Three Quarter Time scores: Darling Downs 1.6 (12) to Morningside 5.4 (34)
Much like the story of the game, Morningside’s work rate around the ground was superior to the Crows and the Panthers were finally rewarded when they booted home the game sealer. With not long left and the Panthers holding a match winning lead of 30-points, Shelton booted his second for the day to cut the margin back to four-straight goals. As the final siren sounded, Morningside celebrated their first win in Toowoomba in over 2 years.
Final Scores: Darling Downs 2.7 (19) def. by Morningside 6.7 (43)
