The AFL Darling Downs Club of the Year Award began in 2012, aiming to reward the clubs who are performing the best off-field. Although these actions may not translate to on-field success, the clubs placed towards the top focus on providing a good environment for their players, volunteers and supporters of the club.
In 2012, the Pittsworth Power won the award, holding out a fast-finishing Toowoomba East Stingers. For 2013 the award has been expanded to include both junior and senior clubs, as well as new points categories. A mammoth 3055 points are on offer, with the leading club at the AFL Darling Downs Presentation Night awarded the prized plaque.
As we enter the final two months of the season, the Toowoomba East Stingers hold a 340 point lead over the Highfields Lions, who lead the two new clubs in the competition, the South Burnett Saints & Chinchilla SUNS.
