The match has been shifted from Coolaroo’s home ground of Toowoomba’s Gold Park to help showcase the sport of Australian Football in Pittsworth.
The Pittsworth Power JAFC is the local junior club who have played in the AFL Darling Downs Juniors competition since 2005.
The match is expected to draw a bit of a crowd from interested onlookers as the Pittsworth Power endeavour to one day field their own senior men’s side.
Interest is likely to be even higher given that the match shapes as the most important clash of Round 14 Allied Pickfords Cup action.
Coolaroo are so far undefeated, sitting atop the table with 11 straight wins, while the Hawks are sitting just inside the top 5 after a win over 6th placed Warwick last weekend.
The Coolaroo side of 2013 has been coached by Nick Barker to start quickly and defend a lead. Full Forward Miels Grice is in superb form, sitting second in the league leading goalkicker award; while Tom Rudolph is also deadly in front of goals when swinging onto his raking left foot. Phil Dreise Jnr has also found the scoreboard in the past few weeks as clubs look to tag him from his damaging midfield role.
Goondiwindi have been the big improvers of season 2013 after winning just 1 game in last year’s competition. Playing Coach Brenton Jardine has injected fresh blood into the side, namely through himself, giant ruckman Troy Millard and strong-leading forward Dave O’Toole. Dave O’Toole is one of the favourites for this year’s Holman Medal by presenting a strong marking forward option that regularly kicks big bags of goals.
Junior matches begin at 8:40am with the A Grade kicking off at 2:30pm at Bridgman Oval. Full canteen and bar facilities will be available.
