Hello Footy Heads! Sorry for the delay but the floods caused some havoc this week and the Phantom has been extremely busy!
Round 6 was certainly an interesting one with a lot of teams fielding fairly low numbers and having key players missing. Some close games and the Toronto Eagles continued on to be six from six and sitting pretty on top of the ladder.
Etobicoke Kangaroos 6.16.52 def Central Blues 3.7.25
Phantom Prediction for this game was Roos by 3 goals and was almost right on the money. Looks like Willsy didn't make it down to play, no doubt frustrated by his teams inability to score this year. The game could have been a lot worse for his side though, considering the Roos kicked 16 behinds with 22 scoring shots to the Blues 10.
This was a one sided affair and while the Blues never gave in, they proved why they are in the bottom half of the ladder while the Roos well and truly back in Finals contention!
Harris solid again with 3 goals and Andrew Boyce in the best for the Roos.
Phantom 1 from 1 on Friday Night.
Toronto Eagles 8.4.52 def Toronto Dingos 7.7.49
Prediction for this one was to be match of the round and it did not disappoint. Things really fired up in the third with some silly chirping going overboard and instigating a little rough housing.
Both sides were missing key players with "Mr 19" Clint Runnalls missing for the Eagles and "The Veteran" Craig Stewart out of the Dingos.
The Eagles came out firing and lead at all changes, but strangely enough they did not even score in the final quarter and were probably lucky to have held on. I'd put it down to a bunch of poor coaching decisions which have hinder the Eagles so far this season. Scoring shots for the game were in favour of the Dingos who will no doubt be frustrated at the loss. They have now lost 2 in a row following their shock loss to the Rebels in Round 5.
Big Wade Edwards kicked 5 goals and was best on for the Dingos, well supported by David Wells and Jimmy Duggan while the Eagles had multiple goal kickers in Marshy, Hamburglar and Husar.
Phantom 1 from 2 - Eagles showing they are potentially the "real deal" in 2013.
Broadview Hawks 1.7.73 def High Park Demons 9.9.63
The Hawks fielded quite a short list on the day with notable absences in Cody Royle and Nick Shuttleworth. Pablo Willis was named and I am curious to know if he's back from the hand injury yet?
Dullard was dominant as usual with 5 goals and James Shuttleworth contributed 3, the Hawks never really doing anything more than what they had to do to win the game.
The Demons did fight it out and guys like Christian Doggett with 4 goals never gave in until the final siren.
Phantom 2 from 3 in Round 6.
Ottawa Swans 9.5.59 drew Toronto Rebels 8.11.59
In what turned out to be almost a surprise upset, the Ottawa Swans took it to the Rebels in Ottawa last weekend and fought out a draw. Similar to the Dingos, the Rebels would no doubt be very frustrated to have kicked inaccurately which potentially cost them the win. Their player numbers for the game appear to have been very low, possibly only playing 16 or 17 on the field and no doubt the Swans would have taken advantage.
The Swans did lead the game up until half time but a strong third quarter saw the Rebels take the lead, only to kick 1.5 to 3 goals in the final to end the game in a draw.
Roffey was strong for the Swans with 3 goals supported by Strom and Woods while Bodnar kicked 4 for the Rebels, well supported well by Bell and Sheedy.
Phantom remains with 2 correct picks from 4 games.
Guelph Gargoyles 17.7.109 def Hamilton Wildcats 2.3.15
Well this one turned out just as expected with the Gargoyles getting a solid turn out of players as they returned back from Ottawa to Margaret Green Reserve. Robbo was back in the line up along with Logel as they piled on the goals against the Wildcats who are really struggling this year.
I predicted to watch Matty Dean and he once again piped up with 5 goals and a BOG performance while Logel and Matthews kicked 3 each for the home side.
DiRago the lone ranger for the Wildcats kicking both of their goals.
Phantom ending the Round 6 with 3 picks from 5.
Not too bad with my tips this week, though I'm still alluded by a perfect week! My preview for Round 7 will be up soon, so keep an eye out for it!
