TRENT SLATTER | THE CHRONICLE | 8 JULY 2013
AFTER a month of patchy form, South Toowoomba finally got its AFL Darling Downs campaign back on track with a thumping 27.11 (173) to 3.9 (27) win over South Burnett on Saturday.
Dan McPhee booted 11 goals to take his haul to 79 for the season as the Bombers blew the Saints off the park.
The win sees Souths leapfrog Goondiwindi into fourth place after the Hawks suffered a narrow 16.10 (106) to 15.8 (98) loss to the Toowoomba Tigers.
Nothing could split the two sides in the first half with Goondiwindi up by just one point at the main break.
The Tigers roared to life in the third term to snatch a 20-point lead but the Hawks stormed home with a five-goal last quarter to go down by eight points.
David O'Toole continued his incredible goal-kicking form with another nine majors for Goondiwindi.
In the weekend's other matches, Warwick kept its hopes of a top five finish alive with an 18.21 (129) to 1.5 (11) victory over Dalby.
The Redbacks were ruthless in defence as they restricted Dalby to just one behind in the second half.
And Lockyer Valley recorded the biggest win in its history with a 21.19 (145) to 6.4 (40) win over Chinchilla.
Damien Morris booted seven goals as the Demons relegated newcomers Chinchilla to last place.
