The AFL Match of the Round this week comes via two teams currently in the top four and who both look like featuring in the finals even this far out from the September action.
It is a home game for the Moranbah Bulldogs tracking along nicely at 5 wins for the season, however they can ill afford to drop a game, and this clash against a wounded Mackay City Hawks outfit should be a corker.
As most who have tried will testify, Moranbah are hard to beat at home, and coach Sebastian Curtis has his boys primed, pumped and ready to take on league heavy weights the Hawks, who will be smarting after their narrow loss last weekend to the Eastern Swans, in what was a very entertaining game.
On speaking to the Dogs Coach Sebastian Curtis this week after training, I was told that the boys had trained very well on Thursday night as they had done all week and coming off the bye, his lads are very keen to impress the home crowd .
Seb said he and his match committee had almost a full list to select from this week at the selection table, and provided the boys play for the full four quarters at 100% concentration, and apply the strong tackling pressure that they have been so far this season, he is sure that his side can negate the run off half back that the Hawks are famous for, and as there is the expectation of a big home crowd Seb feels this can only will help his boys confidence.
Meanwhile Mackay City Coach Dave Johnstone said that his team had taken a lot out of last week’s loss to the Swans, and while not taking anything away from them ( Swans ) David is confident that the loss will spur his charges to a better performance, and that he feels a few of his players missing last week feel as though they need to step up to compensate for the sides loss. Dave said he has a strong list to select from this week, he fully expects his side to return to the winner’s podium this Saturday.
While David concedes that the Dogs will be hard to beat at home, especially if they get a bit of a crowd as is expected, he has tinkled with his game plan at training this last week, and has a few ideas on how to play the big open spaces at Stevenson’s Sports Park.
Both Coaches are expecting a torrid match.
Other matches this round are the Whitsunday Sea Eagles at home at the Whitsunday Sports Ground at Airlie Beach, hosting the Northern Beaches Magpies, and the other clash is the match between the ever improving Bakers Creek Tigers, at home at Etwell Park to the rampaging Eastern Swans side, who are full of confidence after their great win last weekend.
So get out and enjoy a day at the footy and remember to cheer on a local you may know, and be sure to watch the Big Men Fly !
