HIGHFIELDS claimed its biggest scalp of the AFL Darling Downs season on Saturday with a hard-fought 15.6 (96) to 11.4 (70) win over South Toowoomba.
The Lions led at every change as they stunned last year's grand finalists to record their second straight win.
Highfields endured a torrid start to the season, winning just one of its first seven games, but the Lions are finishing strong.
The same can't be said for the Bombers who have struggled for form over the past month with three straight losses.
It was also a tough weekend for the three-time premiers the Toowoomba Tigers who were humbled by the undefeated Coolaroo 19.6 (120) to 4.7 (31).
Miels Grice bagged seven goals for the Roos, who kicked a perfect 8.0 to 2.3 in the first quarter as they never let the Tigers in the contest.
The Tigers held on to third place on the ladder but the revitalised Goondiwindi is nipping at their heels after an impressive 25.9 (159) to 11.7 (73) victory over Warwick.
The Hawks ended a more than six-year hoodoo against their country rivals in superb fashion with David O'Toole (13 goals) outscoring Warwick off his own boot.
Meanwhile, Dalby continued its mid-season resurgence with a 17.14 (116) to 15.8 (98) triumph over the spirited South Burnett.
And University produced the most dominant performance of the season to crush an under-strength Lockyer Valley 35.25 (235) to 0.0 (0).
