Shepparton News
Golden boots across the Goulburn North East Football Association have been decided at the weekend with the final round of regular season action winding up.
Stuart Vance was a runaway winner of his third golden boot in men's division one after ending the season with 22 goals in 12 games.
The numbers stack-up favourably for Vance, whose haul takes his regular season tally to 70 goals in the last three years to go with six goals in Shepparton's last two finals campaigns before his switch to South.
Runners-up to Vance were Cobram's Daniel Genovesi with 14 goals - he scored two at the weekend - as well as UK mid-season import Andy Rushbury from Shepparton, who netted four times in the final round.
Tipped out to fourth after being in the top three for the majority of the season was Tatura's Spiro Vourgaslis.
In the open women's competition the scoring numbers certainly dropped off from past years when Shepparton United forward Jess Theobald was terrorising opposition backlines.
A hat-trick in the final game of the season was enough for Cobram's Bianca Dikkenberg to take out the top scorer's award with 15 strikes in her 16 games this year.
Cobram Victory's Hayley Cornish just missed out after she scored one goal at the weekend to finish on 14, while Leanne Rawson netted 13 goals in just 10 games to finish third for Shepparton United.
You have to feel sorry for Samantha McIntosh of Shepparton though; she had seven goals just half way into her second game of the season before suffering a knee injury that ruled her out for the rest of the year.
Junior goal-fest
In junior divisions, however, there was no shortage of goals.
In the under-16s, Kialla United's Abdulameer Alhashoush was the top marksman with 35 goals, ahead of Tatura's Josh Morritt on 24.
In under-14s, Shepparton's Steven Young struck 31 goals in just 11 games, with Shepparton United's Carl O'Keefe runner-up with 24.
In the under-12s, Shepparton's Henry Coghlan scored 25 goals, while Kialla United's David Musafiri was second with 20.
In the junior girls' division, Shepparton South's Chelsea Clarke scored 38 goals for the season, while South teammate Zoe Courtney was second with 34.
