League takes on new look

New clubs from Kialla and Benalla were last night accepted into North Eastern Soccer League at a brief and largely uneventful annual general meeting.

The league looks set to be known by a different name when the competition's latest additions take to the field this year.

The meeting, shorter than a soccer match itself, did not resolve the hard-hitting issues facing the league next season.

However, it did return Frank Trimboli as president and the five-member committee of the league unchallenged.

Trimboli asked clubs to consider the name Goulburn North East Football Association as the new title the administration would operate under.

A decision will be made on the title at the next general meeting on February 15.

League life member Vince Ballerini took the league committee to task on which constitution it was currently operating under.

Ballerini presented an email circulated last year saying the league would adopt a Football Federation Victoria model constitution to replace the document known colloquially by clubs as the ``yellow book''.

Ballerini said the constitution on December 18 was not approved, making the director nominations unconstitutional.

The league answered by saying it had reverted to the FFV's general constitution in February 2007 and the nominations were therefore valid.

The document on December 18 was a FFV model constitution specific to regional areas.

However, the league did concede that the email circulated before December 18 had incorrectly said yellow book was being replaced as the league's constitution, when in fact it had already been superseded.

Clubs were also alerted to be ready for a lengthy session on February 15 settling the fixturing for next season, currently dependant on Benalla and Numurkah's participation or non-participation in men's division one.
