Coolaroo’s’ Campbell Aston has capped off a superb State Championships at Maroochydore recently after selection in the 2013 Under 12 School Boys Queensland Blaze side. Campbell’s selection makes eight Darling Downs players selected in Queensland teams in 2013; he is the only male so far from the Darling Downs to be selected for Queensland this year.
Campbell was prolific for the DD School-Boys throughout the State Championships and a deserving recipient of a maroon and white Guernsey.
Campbell was quite simple in what the selection meant to him for his sporting achievements.
“Best ever”, Aston told AFLDD Media, he also added that he would play every day if he could.
“I started playing when I was 6 and I would play every day if I could.”
Campbell was born into an Aussie Rules made family with his father Charlie involved in our great game for 40years and life member of Coolaroo AFC.
“I have been around the game since being born and always loved it.”
Aston is a talented all-round athlete with recent selections in the Toowoomba cricket representative side along with Darling Downs duties in Touch Football and Cross Country. Though the Toowoomba Grammar student has his eyes set solely on Aussie Rules.
“I want to get drafted, to Collingwood would be ideal”, Magpies mad Aston said to AFLDD Media on his goals in footy.
Campbell was 1 of only 3 Queensland Country boys selected in the Blaze team; AFLDD Media asked the reason behind his selection and what it came down to.
“Running also with my fitness, working hard and putting my head over the footy and the support and feedback from the DD coaching staff”.
Aston will now travel to Darwin and contest the 2013 National Championships from the 10th to 18th August. Stay tuned on Campbell’s progress right here on www.darlingdowns.aflq.com.au
