For years the AFL has themed one week of the season as Women’s Round. This weekend AFL Darling Downs will celebrate their very first with many events right around the region.
This round has been dedicated to females in football to show the apprecitation for the involvement in making our game the greatest of all, hether they are involved as players, supporters, volunteers, coaches, umpires or even just as mums, wives or sisters.
On Saturday, junior matches will be played across the Darling Downs with female players acting as captain for the day.
Under 8 & Under 10 matches will be played with pink footballs, with the balls being awarded to one of the best on ground players.
Players right across the league, whether they are playing at Goondiwindi, Dalby, Pittsworth, Gatton, Highfields or Toowoomba will wear pink armbands or don the pink zinc in support of the round.
On Sunday, the theme continues with a FREE Come n Try for all women aged 15 and above. The action starts from 9am at Rockville Oval in Toowoomba.
After that, Round 5 of the AFL Darling Downs Women’s League kicks off from 12:30pm at the Gatton Showgrounds with the Lockyer Valley Demons hosting the Warwick Redbacks & South Toowoomba Bombers.
