Frankston mauls Sandringham
Frankston has stormed to its biggest win in almost five years today after demolishing Sandringham by 96 points.
Spearhead Michael Lourey kicked his sixth goal after the final siren to fire the Dolphins to a 23.10 (148) to 8.4 (52) victory.
After Ahmed Saad booted the opening goal of the match, the Dolphins responded with the next eight in a stunning opening term.
The Zebras managed to stem the tide early in the second with three of the first four goals before the Dolphins wrestled back the momentum to sprint to the main break with a 58-point advantage.
Things just got worse for the Zebras after half time as Khan Haretuku joined the party with two goals to help his side put an end to any hopes of fight back.
Sam Lloyd (4 goals) and Jayden Cass (3) were others to hit the scoreboard as the Dolphins kept their hopes of a finals appearance alive with an emphatic victory.
Adam Cockie (23 disposals) Tom Curren (30), Tom Ledger (25) and Saad were among the few Zebras to put up any fight.
Casey Scorpions thump Coburg
The Casey Scorpions have cemented their place in the Peter Jackson VFL top eight with a 47-point win over Coburg today.
With Jesse Hogan (4 goals) starring, the Scorpions led at every change to post a comfortable 16.15 (111) to 9.8 (64) victory.
The young man, many believe is the Demons’ savour, marked strongly across a half forward all day, amassing 20-plus disposals and bringing his teammates into the match.
He was well supported by Tim Smith (3 goals), Mitch Gent and Jordan Pollard, while James Sellar and Neville Jetta did their chances of a recall no harm with an impressive display.
Young Coburg forward Liam McBean bagged two goals to continue his good form, while Robin Nahas and Matthew Arnot continually broke the lines to keep their side within striking distance.
North Ballarat Roosters crush Bendigo Gold
It was all too easy for the North Ballarat Roosters at Eureka Stadium today, trouncing Bendigo Gold by 118 points.
The 21.18 (144) to 3.8 (26) victory has the Roosters just one game out of the top eight on the Bailey Ladders’ ladder, and stating to mount a serious challenge for September action.
Gun midfielder Myles Sewell was the standout, bagging five goals and collecting 29 disposals in a best-on-ground display.
Everything that left his foot seemed to hit the target on a day when the Roosters could do no wrong.
Fellow on-baller Lachlan George and captain Michael Searl finished with three goals each, while youngster Nick Rippon ran riot with 34 possessions.
Oliver Tate (29) and Cameron Delaney (27) were dominant across half back as the Roosters extended their lead at every change.
Daniel Toman was easily Bendigo’s best, finishing with 29 possessions, 11 more than his next teammate, captain Steven Stroobants.
Stroobants kicked two goals to continue his stellar season but few other Gold players had an impact.
