Battle of Britain Cup Preview

The quarter finals of the Battle of Britain Cup (BBC) are played this Sunday as the League competition has a week off.

The BBC has an instant knock out format with all matches to be decided on the day with extra time or penalties as necessary.

The BBC is Victoria’s longest continually played for soccer competition. The historic silverware was donated by a visiting British Air Marshal when he was on rotation at the Sale RAAF base back in 1961.

Title holders Churchill will take on Monash in what is shaping as the pick of the matches.  In their two league encounters this year the Rams have just prevailed over the Wolves on both occasions with identical 4-3 score lines.

The Rams will be without exciting player Kwaku Dade due to injury and Monash will miss reliable sweeper Trent Felici also through injury.  If the league matches are anything to go by then this should be a cracker.

In a Morwell derby Fortuna will host Crinigan Rd rivals Falcons.  Despite not having beaten the Orangemen in over ten years in the league the Birds hold recent bragging rights in the BBC having defeated Fortuna twice at critical stages of the competition in the last four years.

Another tantalising match will see the under performing Traralgon City desperate for redemption over a very solid Moe United side.  With its League Championship aspirations shot to pieces the Roosters will be looking to the BBC to show that last season wasn’t a flash in the pan.

Finally there is a replay of last rounds 0-0 league stalemate when Sale hosts Traralgon Olympians.  Like their Traralgon City neighbours the Olympians will be fired up to take BBC honours after a below par league campaign to date.
