Mid Season Review

We are past the half way mark in the Central League Seniors Competition.
Let's have a look at how the season has unfolded so far.

Churchill Utd
The Rams have overcome the loss of many of their treble winning squad from 2012, holding a 4 point lead at the top of the table under new coach Steve Riess. Paul Riess has returned in fine form in front of goal, contributing 12 goals already, whilst Matt Maselli has contributed key goals in recent weeks. With Jamie Robson returning to lead the defence they will again be the team to beat.

Sale Utd
The only team to have beaten Churchill, winning 2-0 in round 6. The young duo of Tommy Nyugen and Ash Ross dictate the game in midfield and their defence is the most stringent in the league, conceding only 7 goals. The recent recruitment of Jake Budija gives them even more attacking firepower to add to the dangerous Jon Piefke and Ray Allred.

Moe Utd
A win against Fortuna and draws agains Sale and Churchill have proven Moe's title credentials. An extremely experienced squad led by coach Lee Dastey. They share the goals around with Dastey, Adrian Savage, Matthew Shearing and Sam Lietzau each with 5 goals or more. Only blots on their record have been losses to Falcons and Monash.

Monash
The big improvers on 2012 under returning coach Wal Noppert, the Wolves have claimed the scalps of Fortuna and Moe as they sit in 4th. Midfield dynamo Ash Birrell leads all scorers with 12 goals, whilst Coen Slaughter's return to fitness has been a huge boost. Losing sweeper Trent Felici to a fractured skull will hurt, but they will be buoyed by the form of new recruit Ty Christy.

Fortuna 60
A disappointing start to Dave O'dowd's reign at the Lions den with 4 losses in the opening 9 rounds. They have recruited strongly and could well come home with a roar once they gel. Former Casey Comet John McEvoy has looked promising and has chimed in with 7 goals from midfield.

Traralgon Olympians
After a slow start Olympians have begun to climb the table under new coach Tony Pardo. Attacking trio Frank Albanese, George Fkiaris and Andres Nilo will provide a handfull for opposition defences. They have a plethora of experienced players who have tasted success previously and will be expecting a better second half of the season.

Falcons 2000
A very up and down start to the season by the birds, beating high flyers Moe Utd, then coming back to earth with a thud losing to bottom side Newb/Yall. In attacking duo Jesse Kennedy and Nick d'Alessandro they have goals in abundance by the loss of midfield maestro Julian Bacegga to a knee injury will limit their supply.

Traralgon City
Duncan Hanlon has had a tough start to the season after taking over last years suprise package. The loss of keeper Cameron Price has hit them hard, conceding 21 goals already, their entire total for the 2012 season. They'll need Mark Fairbrother to begin finding the net if they are to make an appearance in September.

Newborough/Yallourn United
The combine under new coach Tim Armistead have been dangerous in spurts, their inability to turn in 90 minute performances has cost them points. In the Cook brothers they have a dangerous front line and will expect to build on their win against Falcons with some more successes in the 2nd half of the season.

Tyers Lightning
A good win against Newb/Yallourn at home has been the highlight of Tyers season. Their lack of goalscoring threat has continually put them on the back foot, with only 3 goals scored all season. Mark and Shayne Pavich are amongst the best in the business but the loss of Jake Budija has left them toothless in attack.
