Young Morningside star Josh Smith has won himself a second NEAFL Rising Star nomination after an impressive performance against Labrador in the opening round of the 2013 season.
Smith, who won his first nomination in round 18 last year, has still only played a handful of senior games - proving difficult to handle for opposition teams.
"I'm surprised and honoured about the nomination, it definitely gives me a confidence boost for the rest of the season," said Smith.
"I really just want to work on being consistent and have a solid season for Morningside.
"I'm always concentrating on improving my game to a point where I am ready for my next opportunity - wherever that may be."
The 19-year-old came to Morningside as a junior after representing the University cougars Juniors in Toowoomba and has since represented QLD in U16s and twice in U18s, where he played a crucial midfield role.
Unlucky too miss out in the draft, Smith now models himself on 26-year-old, former Grogan Medallist and Morningside midfielder Nathan Kinch.
"At Morningside I look up to Nathan Kinch because I can learn a lot from him, as he is a similar type of player to me.
"He is hard working and a respected player around the Club, generally a positive player to be around and has received much deserved recognition for his abilities."
Morningside Coach Aaron Rogers thinks that AFL Clubs should be watching this kid closely.
Rogers said that Smith is a shy youngster that lets his actions speak for themselves and touts him as a potential future leader.
"He is very well liked around the club and I can’t speak highly enough of Josh’s personality.
"He thinks a lot about his football and asks a lot of questions so often understands his role perfectly," Rogers said.
"He has outstanding leadership qualities for such a young person, works very hard, honest and is very respectful."
