Top spot on the Peter Jackson VFL ladder will be decided this weekend as Williamstown hosts Port Melbourne at Burbank Oval.
Port Melbourne’s Round 3 draw against Sandringham sees it half a game ahead of a group of four challengers, with Williamstown at the top of that group with the best percentage in the competition at 171%.
The two sides have the longest history in the competition, this weekend meeting for clash 240 with Port Melbourne leading in the head to head battles 128 to 105 – the two sides not being able to be separated at the final siren six times.
Port Melbourne – a side no stranger to a winning streak - has won their last four games in a row, and currently have the best winning streak along with Box Hill Hawks, who have also won their last four.
Just one win is a row behind is Williamstown, having won three in a row, their most recent win a 175-point demolition of Bendigo Gold.
Both sides welcome back some key personnel who have been missing in recent rounds.
The home side welcomes their captain Ben Jolley back into the side, having not played since the State game. Port Melbourne will see the return of key midfielders Toby Pinwill and Shane Valenti, both of whom are yet to play a senior game this season, and have returned via the Development League in recent weeks.
All is set for a classic encounter between these two sides.
Williamstown this year have found a number of key options to goal, with their wealth of young talent proving their worth up in the forward line. The Seagulls have seen regular goals out of the likes of Charlie Nastasi, Kirby McConnon, Simon Deery and Anthony Anastasio, with these players having earned their senior spots through good form in the Development League.
Port Melbourne have seen their main stays in Dean Galea and Adrian Bonnadio as their key targets up forward, but have seen plenty of input from the likes of Sam O’Sullivan, Josh Scipione and Chris Cain, with the latter spending more time in the middle of the ground this year.
