Northern Blues and Collingwood will reignite their age old rivalry this Saturday at Preston City Oval. Both teams are coming into the match in impressive form following round six and seven victories over Essendon and North Ballarat respectively. Alexander McLeman previews the game.
The Pies enter this weekend’s contest coming off the back of a hard fought nine point win over Essendon in round seven. Collingwood rallied from four points behind at the end of the opening quarter to take the lead and kept it till the final siren. Kyle Martin led the way for the Pies taking home an impressive six goals with Jackson Paine adding three goals for himself while Tim Broomhead and Ben Hudson chipped in with two apiece. Caolan Mooney, Alan Didak, Lachlan Ferguson and Ben Richmond all helped Collingwood clinch the victory with a goal each.
Against the Blues this weekend Collingwood will have to put on an equally impressive showing of goal threats, with eight different scorers in round seven. They will also need to work on their defense which allowed the likes of Joe Daniher and Cory Dell’Olio of Essendon to bag five goals each.
The Northern Blues return home to Preston City Oval in high spirits following a bye week and a round six complete performance against North Ballarat, beating the Roosters by 44-points. The Blues will again look for of Myles Dorman, Kane Lambert, Dylan Buckley and Tim Lincoln to step-up and bring their game as both sides looks evenly matched across the board.
The Blues will want to keep pace with the leaders as a gap between the top 5 teams and the rest is beginning to form. The winner of this weekend’s match will go a long way to determining who will be in the hunt for finals places.
The Blues and Pies currently sit in sixth and seventh spot on 16 points six behind leaders Port Melbourne. Both teams look to be in good form which makes viewing this weekend’s match from a neutrals perspective a mouthwatering affair.
