The North Central Football League set the pace of the game early in the opening term when Angus Grigg brought up the first major score of the day. Jones who was leading by example got on the end of a great pass from the midfield to bring up goal number two. Geelong & District, Tyquin registered the home side’s first goal.
The contest was on in earnest as both sides attacked the ball ferociously and there were was no easy kicks. It was a great contest with little separating the two teams, North Central gained a mini break and kicked out to a three goal lead and looked as though they were gaining the upper hand but late in the term the home side kicked quick goals to level up the contest at the first break with both sides on 5-3. Grigg was dominant for the visitors with three first quarter goals; Breguet kicked two goals to keep the Geelong & District.
North Central produced their best football for the day when they broke away from Geelong & District kicking seven goals to the home leagues three goals. Barnes and Tungatalum were the focal points for the North Central team, both kicking two goals a peace. In this quarter the pace of the game went up another level and the North Central team was starting to gel together resulting in a twenty five point lead at the main break.
Geelong & District were first to score and looked set to reduce the Centrals lead but missed opportunities let their opposition in and they paid the price with the Central boys slamming on another 5-goals. Goals were shared around for the visitors and the home side could only manage the one goal for the term that coming in the opening minute of the second half. With a healthy lead of 51-point lead at the end of the third quarter the Centrals had set up a match winning margin. They Centrals had winners all over the ground and their rotations were protecting fitness levels of all players as they set up for a big last quarter.
With 30-minutes to play the Centrals were not going to allow the Geelong side any chance of getting back in the contest. All players lifted and denied the home side any scoring opportunities. Jones who had been the key for the Centrals continued his great work all over the ground. Strange and McKenzie were giving the midfields first use of the ball again as they had done for the first three terms. Tungatalum was great with five goals and giving off another couple to his team mates. Geelong & District kicked two goals late in the quarter but all too late as the visitors had built on the three quarter time lead and ran out winners by 61 points to record their second win at inter-league level in the last two years.
