The Army AFL Sydney Womens Round 5 Rising Star nominee is Stephanie Walker from Sydney University.
Stephanie made her debut for Sydney University against the Newtown Breakaways earlier this season. Having played in the Youth Girls League, and represented NSW at under 18s level, it is unsurprising that Steph embraced the step up to the Women’s league.
Steph has impressed with her silky skills, speed, and fearless attack on the ball. Steph’s athleticism and ability to read the ball off the pack bagged her three goals on the run in her debut, and her powerful and accurate right foot kick set up several more. Steph’s defensive pressure was equally impressive, as Steph proved she could use her speed to catch and tackle players twice her size.
Steph’s all-round terrific performances have been recognised by her teammates. In her debut game she was voted the players’ player for the match. She has also kicked 5 goals so far this season. Consistently featuring in the best on ground votes, Steph will undoubtedly be a player to watch in 2013.
