May 2013 President's Report

Parkes & District Amateur Soccer Association Inc.
President’s Report – May Meeting 2013

The 2013 season is now in full swing but it goes without saying that it has started with its fair share of criticism directed at the NEW executive committee for the 2013 season over the formation of teams in the competition.

What some people need to remember and if they had any real interest in this sport in Parkes is that this committee for the current season is completely different to that of past seasons and everyone involved is still learning the ropes in their respective positions, the only current members of our executive with more than 5 years experience is our Secretary David Parker, who has been involvement in the sport in Parkes for well over 20 years and myself. Maybe it is about time that these people that want to criticise the decisions of the committee to come in and start lending a hand and attending meetings just like I mentioned prior to our Annual General Meeting in 2012, we are always looking for new people to help out.

But back to my topic about the formation of teams, particularly in the Under 6 age group, we as an association spend a combined effort of around 8 hours putting teams together and at the end of the day don’t seem to get much thanks for but all we seem to get, and I will bring this word up again is criticism.

This season, as like the last few, we have held 3 registration days and their is nothing more frustrating that receiving late registrations especially after teams have been formed, for an example, on Saturday 4 May when the season commended for all age groups except for Under 6’s and 7’s we had an additional 15 registrations for the Under 6 age group alone, enough to make 2 additional teams, hence the reason to do so. At the time registrations came in on the Saturday we weren’t to know that we would get this amount and we put the players registering straight into teams as they came in, but when we realised the great number that we got a decision had to be made and new teams were formed. The idea behind this was to ensure that all players would be able to spend more time on the field rather than sitting on the sideline, more teams means fewer players in a squad which equals more game time for players. We do try our best to keep friends together but this can be difficult at times.

In concluding my report I would like to share my opinion on junior sport and what it is about to me and I know of others that also share the same opinion as me. I feel that junior sport is all about making new friends and meeting new people and their is no better way to do this than at a young age, with some of the comments made via our Facebook page about players not being with their friends is it really a concern of the players, or is it the fact that the parents aren’t happy or don’t mix with the parents of the other children? That I guess we will never really know the truth of.
