DEMONS coach Tony Bowers will be looking to have his troops fired up as they travel the Warrego Highway to take on new-comers the SUNS at the Chinchilla showgrounds. Lockyer Valley will be looking to a four quarter effort against the SUNS as the Dee’s where run over in both their Goondiwindi and Warwick clashes during the fourth quarter.
The boys from the west though have had an interesting last few rounds; they pushed 2012 Grand-Finalists South Toowoomba right to the final term but lacked the ability to run out the game. Then they were given a lesson by premiership favourites Coolaroo in Round 6.
Kratzmann, Muir and White will be backing up from Country representative duties and will be the key to the SUNS victory at home. (James) Kratzmann’s silky skills and leadership are invaluable to the young SUNS and Kratzmann will need to be shut down if the Demons will have a chance. On the other hand Lockyer Valley have their own weapons in prolific on-baller Damien Morris and key forward Dave McInnes who are both also backing up after Country representation.
Morris is the Demons ‘X’ factor and is no doubt already heavily backed to take out the Lockyer Valley Best and Fairest. His ball usage is first class and is very quick, though he will need support and that is what he has lacked this year but no doubt Coach Bowers will be looking to his younger brigade to help the key Demon.
The winner of this clash will pick up their first premiership points of season 2013 and the loser will need to go back to the drawing board. A game not to miss and no doubt the Chinchilla locals will be out in force as the Suns take on the Dee’s from 2:30pm.
In other clashes the young Swannies will be at home and will face 2013 premiership favourites Coolaroo at Owen Street. Key match ups for this game will be Hughes V Sankey, Driese V Rockliff, these one on one battles are the key and whoever can get on top will give their side the best opportunity to come away with the four points.
Highfields will be looking to roar once again at home as they take on the most improved team in the competition the Hawks. Goondiwindi are sitting in the top 5 at the moment and will be looking to stay there. Troy Millard and Clinton Watts will be a great match up, Millard the giant has been giving the Hawks on-ballers first use but no doubt have his hand full as he faces one of the premier players in the competition.
The fourth place University Cougars will march into Saints territory this weekend and will need to be at the top of their game if they want to have an enjoyable bus trip home. South Burnett wants to win 6 games at home this year, as they turn Lyle Vidler into a fortress. Scoring from stoppages will be the key and the Saints will need to stop hard running (Chris) Davis for the Cougars if they are to get the four points.
Reigning premiers the Toowoomba Tigers will host the table topping Redbacks at the home of footy, as the 5 and ‘O’ Reddies look to go 6 from 6. Young gun Tim Tate has been in superb form in 2013, the 17 year old has been ripping opposition teams apart with his attack on the footy but will be tested today. The Tigers are known for their aggression at the footy and will test the teenager, Tate will be looking to support from Clarkson and co. Skipper Talbot (Tigers) and the elusive Michael O’Donoghue (Co Captain with Talbot) will be the keys to the premiers regaining some momentum in 2013.
South Toowoomba has the bye.
