Get to know the Peter Jackson VFL state side:
KANE LAMBERT: Continues to create favourable impression with Northern Blues after break-out year last season. Featured regularly among the best this season. Great work ethic, good at the stoppages and uses ball efficiently.
SCOTT SHERLOCK: Attacking Werribee defender who was in the AFL Victoria VFL Academy last season. Reads the play, prepared to back his judgement. Provides plenty of drive and attack with his run from defence.
DOM GLEESON: Evergreen veteran who captained Werribee for three years, won two best and fairests with Werribee then moved to Geelong’s VFL club where he was a pivotal player in last year’s premiership. Hard at the contest where he’s good at winning clearances. Dangerous around goal. Click HERE to see the captains view of the state game.
CHRIS MICHALIADES: Enjoying break-out year in second season for Sandringham. Small, quick forward who can break open a game with his pace and ability to kick goals. Will enjoy spacious ground.
STEPHEN CLIFTON: Returned this season to original club North Ballarat after playing five games with Greater Western Sydney. Triple premiership player with North Ballarat, who won the 2011 JJ Liston Trophy. Quality rover who twice has been named in the VFL Team of the Year.
BEN WARREN: Former North Melbourne player who played 29 games with the Kangaroos. Chose to stay with the Roos’ VFL affiliate Werribee. Kicked 11 goals in the season opener and currently leads the VFL goal kicking. Plays much taller than size indicates. Good hands, good conversion rate.
MYLES SEWELL: North Ballarat midfielder who is one of the most decorated players in the competition. Triple premiership player, three-time best and fairest winner, four-time VFL Team Of The Year member and, of course, JJ Liston Trophy winner. Prolific possession winner.
JOSH SCIPIONE: Enjoying a career year with Port Melbourne. Stylish half forward who cemented his spot in a talent-laden Port Melbourne team last season, but has taken his game to new level this season. Good hands, leads and marks well. Good finishing skills.
BEN ROSS: Former North Melbourne player now in his second season with Werribee. Coming off a career year where he represented the VFL against Tasmania and won the JJ Liston Trophy. Rotates through midfield and attack. Uses ball effectively and efficiently.
RILEY HEDDLES: Came through the Dandenong Stingrays program now in his second season with Frankston. Tough defender who is hard at the contest and has been among the Dolphins’ best this season.
MARCUS MARILGIANI: Former Essendon player who is in his first season captaining Sandringham. Twice named in VFL Team of the Year, represented the VFL back in 2008. Ferocious attack on the ball. Can rotate through the midfield, dangerous in attack.
CHRIS CAIN: Port Melbourne premiership player who represented the VFL against Tasmania last year. Skillful, elusive half forward who has the ability to swing a game with his explosive bursts. Good closing speed, creates space and converts well.
SAM LLOYD: Another young Frankston player who has created an impression this season. Played last three games with Bendigo last year before switching to Frankston. Strong mark, hard match-up. Kicked four goals in last match against North Ballarat.
LACHLAN GEORGE: Playing his best football in second stint with North Ballarat after playing with Tasmania and Box Hill Hawks. Wins plenty of the ball, uses it effectively. Able to play a variety of roles.
DAVID MIRRA: Considered unlucky by many not to be on an AFL list. Hard working defender who was in the 2011 VFL Team Of The Year. Capable of shutting down a key opposition player as well as generating plenty of drive. Strong at the contest, tireless work ethic.
ADAM COCKIE: Former Subiaco/West Coast player now in his second season with Sandringham after playing every game last year. Provides plenty of run, drive and energy. Extremely hard at the contest, great tackler and can also be effective when goes forward. Click HERE to view Adam's view of the state game.
WILLIE WHEELER: One of the youngest members of the VFL squad. In his second season won the Coburg Tigers best and fairest then moved this season to Williamstown where he has been a revelation. Versatile player who can play a role, run through the midfield or play either end of the ground.
MICHAEL LOUREY: Strong marking key position forward now in his second stint with Frankston. Featured among the top 10 competition goal kickers for Sandringham in 2011, but couldn’t hold down position last year with Zebras. Now back at Frankston he’s once again among the VFL’s top goal kickers.
EVAN PANOZZA: Now in his second season as Casey Scorpions captain. Ever reliable defender who reads the play well, strong discipline, plays the percentages and has good hands.
MICHAEL SIKORA: Late convert to the game after excelling at basketball. Created an impression in first season with Sandringham then trained with Essendon pre-season. Switched across to Essendon’s VFL club this year. Emerging ruckman.
SAM PLEMING: Achieved his VFL Life Membership milestone game (175) early in the season. Port Melbourne dual best and fairest winner, premiership player and VFL representative. Reliable defender who sets up teammates.
JAKE WILSON: Strong, powerful defender who was named in the VFL Academy at the start of the season. Enjoying break-through season with Werribee. Hard at the contest, strong mark and good negating skills.
SCOTT SIMPSON: Former Geelong key position player who spent a couple of seasons on the Cats list. Played last season with Mt Eliza before joining Frankston. Powerful, strong marking key position player. Strong hands. Kicked eight goals in one VFL match for Geelong.
