GEORGIE Seaniger admits she's had a whirlwind introduction to the sport of Australian Football.
The 16-year-old only kicked a Sherrin for the first time seven months ago but she's already set to line up for Queensland at the Under-18 Youth Girls National Championship in Shepparton next week.
Seaniger was one of three Darling Downs girls along with Isabelle Baldock and Danielle Wall to earn a maroon guernsey after helping the Southern Stars finish second at the state titles in Cairns.
The netball-convert said her selection was a nice surprise given her limited experience in the game.
"It was really surprising. I didn't expect to get in. I went away to Cairns just for the fun side of it," Seaniger said.
"It's good with Belle and Danielle because the rest of the team is all Brisbane and girls from up north."
Seaniger was introduced to Aussie rules through a school competition and she said her skills from other sports had helped her pick it up fairly quickly.
"I'm a netballer and I play a bit of basketball too," she said.
"(Aussie rules) is really similar to netball so it's fairly easy for me. I'm not too good with kicking though. I've got to get used to that."
Nationals will be a huge challenge for the rookie player with the best girls in the country from six state teams all vying for the national crown.
But Seaniger said she wasn't too nervous and was looking forward to the chance to play at a higher level.
"Hopefully I'll go all right. I know it's going to be a tough comp," she said.
"I was in the middle but now for Queensland I'm playing a defensive wing - out with the smaller people.
"I'm just worried about my size and getting crushed by all the bigger girls."
Seaniger said she enjoyed Aussie rules and was looking for more opportunities to improve her game, starting with the new AFL Darling Downs women's competition which kicks-off this weekend.
"It'll be good to get that going. It won't be as tough as well so I can get the grip of everything," she said.
"I only have one more year in the under-18s ... but I hope to stick with it."
