Week Seven Players of the Week Awards
Lakeside Lightning star import Ben Beran has taken out the Week Seven Men’s SBL Player of the Week award.
Beran was unstoppable in Thursday’s night’s 10 point win over East Perth finishing with 36 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Beran backed that performance up on Saturday Night to finish with 32 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists as Lakeside went on to defeat Wanneroo 148-93 and ensure his team stays a top the Men’s SBL ladder at the conclusion of round seven.
There were many standout performances in the Men’s SBL over the weekend with two players falling just short of recording triple-doubles including Rockingham’s Steven Bennett’s 25 point, 9 rebound, 11 assist game in Saturday Night’s narrow loss to the South West Slammers who were led by Ty Harrelson’s 25 points, 11 rebounds & 9 assists.
Other considerations for the weekly award included Cooper Land (Rockingham), Luke Nevill (Kalamunda), Drew Williamson (East Perth), Brian Carlwell (Cockburn), Gavin Field (Cockburn), Robert Huntington (Wanneroo), Bennie Lewis (Perth), Adrian Majstrovich (Perry Lakes), Steven Weingarten (Goldfields), Taylor Land (Mandurah), Caleb Davis (Stirling), Quinn Mcdowell (Willetton) and Jamahr Warren (South West).
Australian Belt Scrapers Wanneroo Wolves sharp shooter Nikita-Lee Martin has been awarded the Week Seven Women’s SBL Player of the Week award.
Martin was impressive for Wanneroo over the weekend to finish with 40 points, 15 rebounds, 8 assists, 7 steals and 2 blocks in 62 minutes from two games, leading her team to a 2-0 record for week seven with wins over Kalamunda and Lakeside.
Rockingham Flames import Samantha Whitcomb was unlucky to miss out on her second player of the week award after a stellar performance for Rockingham on Saturday Night to finish with 26 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals as the Flames defeated 2012 WSBL Champions South West Slammers 112-63.
Other considerations for the award included Stephanie Jones (Cockburn), Chelsea Burns (Wanneroo), Casey Mihovilovich (Mandurah), Emily Fielding (Lakeside), Darcee Garbin (Rockingham), Kimberly Sitzmann (South West), Lisa Wallbutton (Willetton), Kaye Tucker (Rockingham) and Melissa Marsh (Willetton).
