TRENT SLATTER | THE CHRONICLE | 29 APRIL 2013 COOLAROO added University to its imposing list of AFL Darling Downs scalps with an 11.12 (78) to 9.14 (68) victory at Gold Park on Saturday. The Roos held out a fast-finishing Cougars outfit to keep their unbeaten record intact and hand Uni its first loss of 2013. It was all Coolaroo in the first half as they raced away to a 27-point lead before the Cougars hit back with a four-goal third quarter to take the match down to the wire. Uni continued to come home strongly in the last quarter but they couldn't chase down the Roos. In the weekend's other games, Dalby's young brigade stood tall as the Swans downed Highfields 20.15 (135) to 10.14 (74). Reigning under-18 player of the year Lachlan Thomas bagged five goals for Dalby to lead his side to its second win of the season. Goondiwindi continued to shake off the disappointment of last year's wooden spoon with a 14.14 (98) to 7.4 (46) triumph over Lockyer Valley. Lockyer Valley sent a scare through the Hawks camp with a stunning third quarter to trail by just five points at the final change. But Goondiwindi showed complete dominance in the last quarter, keeping the Demons scoreless while adding 47 points with some sizzling team plays. Chinchilla produced its best performance since joining the league but it wasn't enough to overcome South Toowoomba. The Suns trailed by just nine points at halftime before the Bombers, led by Dan McPhee with nine goals, spoiled Chinchilla's first ever home game with a 22.13 (145) to 13.10 (88) victory. And Warwick remains undefeated after cruising past South Burnett 28.18 (186) to 1.9 (15) in the return of the annual Anzac Cup clash. The Redbacks kept South Burnett goal-less until the final quarter with a suffocating defensive effort. Warwick's Mark Borgert was superb on the wing, constantly bringing the ball out of defence into attack, which earned him the Anzac Medallion for best-on-ground.
