UNSW-ES Bulldogs Club Captain, Peter Kefalas, reaches a significant milestone this weekend playing his 150th first grade game for the UNSW-ES Bulldogs.
Below is a tribute from the club:
Kefalas has been the rock of the Bulldogs over the past ten seasons, and through the good times and bad, he has been a consistent and ever reliable presence at the club setting the benchmark in his behavior and actions on the field and off it. Kefalas, a local junior of the Easts Bulldogs has been a regular first grade player since 2003, including a premiership in his first year however it has been a while between ouzos for Kefalas, waiting eight seasons till the 2012 season where he captained the Bulldogs to the Premier Division Premiership.
Kefalas has also been heavily involved in off field roles for the club including being a committee member since 2011, and notably coaching an undefeated Under 18’s team in 2009 to a Premiership that incidentally featured a young newcomer to the code named Dane Rampe.
While Kefalas sneaks under the radar of many opposition teams, he is held in the highest regard at the Bulldogs by his coach and team mates;
Rhys McAlister, coach of the current team and also last year’s premiership team commented on Kefalas – “Pete has given his heart and soul for this footy club. As a coach and player, you just love going into battle with Pete every week because you know that he will give every ounce of effort he has in pursuit of victory for our club. As a player, there is no tougher. I am certain that Pete will finish his career and be regarded as one of the greatest and toughest Bulldogs to don the red, white and blue”
Premiership teammate, Leigh Lavery added “Courage, relentlessness, selflessness, loyalty, reliability and honesty sums up Kef’s character, is why he is now a Premiership Captain and why he is loved by many at the Bulldogs, he personifies a great deal of what I love about our club and why I love football.”.
Congratulations Peter on your 150th and everyone at the Bulldogs look forward to many, many more.
