On behalf of everyone at AFL NSW/ACT I would like to welcome you and your club to the 2013 Season. I hope you are looking forward to the start of what will be another huge year of football in NSW and the ACT.
AFL NSW/ACT has over 30,000 club football participants who turn out each weekend across all corners of the state and territory to play for more than 282 community clubs. Grassroots football is the lifeblood of the indigenous code and everyone involved should be proud of how strong our club network has become.
Each club, like yours, could not survive without the dedicated volunteers that provide invaluable support each week – from coaching and umpiring, to administration and governance. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone involved in our community clubs.
Overall, the number of people participating in Australian Rules Football in our region is growing every year. We’re working hard to make sure that people from all walks of life have the opportunity to experience Australia’s game, and to ensure the sport has a safe future in the community.
One of the primary goals of AFL NSW/ACT is to ensure that our local players have a viable pathway to develop into elite talent. Working alongside the Swans and GIANTS Talent Academies, and having access to a high quality second-tier competition like the NEAFL means that we can offer our local talent more opportunities than ever before.
At the highest level NSW and the ACT undoubtedly experienced one of the most exciting years of football in history last year, with the GIANTS debut making for a exciting start and then seeing the Swans take out the 2012 AFL Premiership it was certainly a memorable year for all of us. The GIANTS will face some tough challenges in their second year but the quality of their recruits is first class, and I have no doubt they will be showing signs of success to come during the 2013 season.
Meanwhile, the reigning Premiers are sure to have another blockbuster year off the back of their success in 2012. We’re so proud that for the first time in their 30 year history they are captained by two NSW/ACT players in Jarrad McVeigh and Kieren Jack as well as being coached by NSW born John Longmire. The Swans have also recruited a significant number of local players to their rookie list, including Dane Rampe, Sam Naismith and Dan Robinson. -
Football on all levels is growing rapidly, and more and more people are getting involved with the game. Along with this message please find enclosed a document which provides you with key personnel within your region. Please feel free to contact these people to assist you with your endeavours. We welcome everyone into our community and hope that everyone can work together to share and grow our game.
