Preview:
The Bulldogs did not make a false step in 2012, finishing minor and then major premiers. Dane Rampe was pivotal to this, with the Phelan Medalist now going on to greener pastures with the Sydney Swans- a marvellous story and advertisement for AFL Sydney.
Outside Rampe, their list has taken somewhat of a hit with premier ruckman, Sam Tagliabue moving to Melbourne to train with Essendon’s VFL squad, and Ian Carroll and Stephen Benjamin retiring. Leigh Lavery is also out till at least July with ankle surgery.
Rhys McAlister will be asking for a lift across the playing list. Henry Mason is by all reports a class addition who can play as a key position forward. Mitch Somes (Eastlake) and Mick Towan are also key additions. Luke Irvine and Tyler Roos are class juniors who might taste senior footy in 2013.
The losses are big but McAlister’s structures are tried and tested and the Bulldogs still have the cattle to go back-to-back.
