Rams and Falcons clash in Friday night special

Friday nights match between Churchill United and Falcons 2000 has shaped as the clash of the round in the Gippsland Soccer League this week.

With both clubs coming off victories at the weekend and Falcons keen to bury memories of their humiliation at the hands of Churchill in last years Battle of Britain Cup final this should be a hotly contested fixture.

Falcons striker Jesse Kennedy called Hazelwood south reserve home for the last two seasons and will hope to add to his goal tally against his old club.

Returning from an effective four year injury lay off Rams target man Paul Riess marked his come back in style last week with a hat trick and the Falcons defence will need to mark him tightly to keep him quiet tomorrow night.

Kennedy and Daniel Eddy will test the Rams defence which conceded three goals last week. Falcons defence, with veteran talisman come ‘keeper Carlo Villani, will also be asked questions by Churchill’s strike force of Riess, Kwaku Dade and Taylor Jackson.

Both clubs will be missing key personnel with Tim Dawson absent for Churchill and Elias Yousif suspended for the birds.

In other matches first round losers Newborough/ Yallourn and Traralgon Olympians will meet at Burrage reserve, title aspirants Traralgon City will host Monash and Tyers will hope to limit the damage against a Fortuna side keen to make amends for their rare goal less draw against City.

The other match on Sunday will see Sale host Moe United with both clubs coming off solid wins respectively and looking forward to renewing their rivalry from last season.
