WARWICK DAILY NEWS | 5 MARCH 2013
THE coveted Cardinal Cup pre-reason weekend has been saved from cancellation by the Sovereign Hotel Warwick and the Jimboomba Southern Redbacks.
Licensees of the 'Sov' Sarah and Jason Worth are standing by their initial decision to be the carnival's major sponsors even though it was forced to be relocated to Jimboomba at the last minute.
With Roddies Oval being in an unplayable state due to our recent weather conditions, Lismore in even worse condition, and Goondiwindi holding cricket finals, Jimboomba has thrown the Cardinal Cup a lifeline.
With such short notice, the Jimboomba club could not obtain a major sponsor for the prizemoney and player awards so the Worths' generosity is an enormous relief for the WCU Redbacks.
The Sov hooked up with the Warwick Credit Union Redbacks for the 2012 season, prepared to come on board again this season and become involved at a much higher level, hence the Cardinal Cup sponsorship.
The Redbacks said it was a tragedy the competition had to move out of town, but in pleading its case to Mrs and Mrs Worth, they both felt that the show must go on.
The club said the support was further proof of what is a great belief within the WCU Redbacks, the business community and supporters of the club.
"We, the executive, committee, players, members and supporters of the WCU Redbacks thank Sarah and Jason enormously."
