Auckland's start-studded team, coached by Men's Touch Blacks coach, Peter McIntyre, includes Trans Tasman Men's Champions Tiv and Tama Guthrie, Daniel Tupua-Siliva and a host of other players who have represented New Zealand.
Tapu-Siliva continued his strong wing play form the Trans Tasman test series, scoring after the ball was spread wide following a repeat set on Canterbury's line.
Canterbury, led by Nazea Silbery, hit back quickly with a touchdown of their own but Auckland notched up three more scores in the half to go the the break 4-1 leaders.
Shaun Bell stepped up for Canterbury in the second half and provided a strong base for his team to work from. Henry Tuatea was also a danger for Auckland and the boys in blue scordf forced through Tupua-Siliva again.
Canterbury kept on coming but Auckland's first-half lead was too much to run down and Auckland eventually ran out 7-4 winners.
