The AFL Sydney Representative program for 2013 has been confirmed with two bumper clashes to take place over the June long weekend.
The AFL Sydney senior representative squad will host AFL Cairns at Blacktown International Sports Park on Saturday 8 June, with the Development Squad taking on the Riverina FL at Robertson Oval, Wagga Wagga the following day.
Both sides will be looking to reverse losses against their two opponents when they last played in 2011.
The Senior outfit lost by 16-points in a close encounter up north at Cazaly Stadium after leading at three-quarter time, while the Development Squad who played as an Under 23 outfit in Newcastle two years ago were unable to overturn a large first-quarter deficit against the bigger bodies from down south.
AFL Sydney Football Operations Manager, Matthew Graham is confident the league can give a strong account in this representative campaign.
“The representative program is always one of the highlights of the AFL Sydney season,” he said.
“This season is no different where will we play two seasoned outfits, but in saying that, we are confident we have the players to perform well.”
“These games gives our top-line players and also developing players the opportunity to prove their worth on the big stage.”
AFL Sydney is seeking expressions of interest for coaches and support staff to be involved in both fixtures.
Applications should be sent to Matthew Graham at matthew.graham@aflnswact.com.au by COB Monday 11th March 2013.
