Another season of the Dalby Swans Cup got under way last Friday (22/2) on the Southern Cross ovals as both Dalby South and Dalby Central State Schools face the daunting task of stopping the OLOSCC juggernaut from winning an eighth straight boys division title.
Only two of the five Our Lady teams won in the opening round as Dalby South powered to victory over the OLOSCC Cats 3.6 (24) to 2.1 (13). The OLOSCC derby between OLOSCC Lions and Suns drew with each 4.5 to 4.5.
Dalby Central has a few strike weapons up their sleeve and one in particular is Chris Featherstone (pictured) who was named in the Dalby Swans All Star squad in 2012 as an 11 year old. Chris was asked on Dalby Centrals chances of taking out the Cup for the first time.
“That’s our goal, to win and take the Cup off OLOSCC....especially with it been my last chance too.” Featherstone said.
It wasn’t only the opening round for the boys division but the girls division kicked off in style also with Dalby Central defeating OLOSCC Bulldogs 5.1 (31) to 0.2 (2). OLOSCC played off in the second game Tigers V Dockers where the Dockers gave the Tigers a lesson winning to the tune of 50points.
The girls division is also been dominated by the Southern Crossers taking out the competition both times (2007, 2012). The 2013 girl’s competition has three Our Lady of the Southern Cross teams and a Dalby Central SS side.
