While AFL Sydney clubs have been busy at pre-season training, things are no different for the umpires as they prepare for the 2013 season.
Pre-season training officially started in early February with strong numbers hitting the tracks. The focus for the umpiring group is on fitness, as well as the laws and interpretations for this season.
Last week, the umpires were treated to an appearance by three Sydney Swans players, namely Ryan O’Keefe, Jarrad McVeigh and Harry Cunningham, as part of the Swans Community Camp.
The field umpires will be coached by Ashley Thomas in 2013, while Angus Heritage was recently announced as the boundary umpires’ coach.
The umpires train twice a week at North Sydney Oval and Blacktown International Sports Park.
Positions are always open for those wanting to try their hand at umpiring this year.
