It’s official – the 2013 school footy season is underway!
The 2013 Coles School Ambassador launch, held on Wednesday in Toowoomba, marked the start of the new footy year.
A group of teachers from the Darling Downs gathered at Harristown State High School for a presentation by AFLQ staff, Jeff Neumann and Keith Webb, as part of the launch.
Neumann outlined the key dates for 2013 and presented the teachers with their official School Ambassador clothing for the year, thanking them for their ongoing promotion of school footy.
Tom Marshall, Harristown teacher and school ambassador, also spoke to the group on ways to utilise AFL apps in promoting and organising school footy.
Finally, the group visited the school oval where local indigenous athletes were undergoing fitness and skill tests as part of the AFL’s Kickstart program.
The school footy program has grown in recent years, and Webb said this increase in participation should see the Downs region ambassadors grow from 48 in 2012 to 60 this year.
School ambassadors play a vital role in increasing AFL participation rates, not only in Queensland, but across the country.
